Famous family

During WW1 a Lieutenant Colonel Best Dunkley, age 26, was awarded the V.C. (Victoria Cross), for bravery on the 31st July 1917, at Wieltje, Belgium. He was serving with the Lancashire Fusiliers when led his men against the advancing German Army with heavy machine gun fire. He later died of his wounds.

The name is linked to the Wellham name through the descendants of Thomas Dunkley born 1839 in Bedfordshire, he married a lady called Martha. They had a son called Arthur Dunkley who was born in 1877, he married Agnes. They had a son called Harold Augustus Dunkley born 1909. He married Phyllis Styles (Harmer), born in 1909. They had a daughter called Christine Sylvia Dunkley in Chatham, Kent. She marriedAnthony James Bullock of Malvern, they had three daughters, Debbie, Diane and Sally. Christine later re-married to Brian Hall. Diane Bullock married Simon Wellham of Worcester. They had two sons Jamie George William and Luke George Brian Wellham.
