Origins of the
name
The name Bullock is an old English name
and has been in use for many centuries. The name, as many others, travelled
throughout the British Empire during the 1700s and 1800s. The name can easily
be found in the 1500s in Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Essex. During the 1600s the
name appears to spread to Middlesex, Somerset, Shropshire, Derbyshire,
Yorkshire, Lancashire and Northumberland. Today the name can be found
throughout the UK.
Place names
In 1560 a Richard Bullock leased some land
by Stockport, south of Manchester. He built a blacksmith business there. Later
he named the area Bullock Smithy, after a few settlers moved to the area. The
village was renamed in 1835 to Hazel Grove and is still there today.
There is a Bullock Mountain in Glenn
Innes, New South Wales, Australia.
Famous family
In 1921 there was a famous Cricketer,
batsman, called Percy Bullock born 1893. William Bullock was a famous Comedian
born 1657 - 1740.
Probably the best known Bullock today is
the actress Sandra Bullock. The Bullock family can now be found working
in all areas of Industry and Commerce.

linked to the Wellham
family through the descendants of Thomas Bullock who married a lady known as
Christy.
They had a son Arthur Bullock, who
married Alice Saunders
of Bishops Frome. They had a son called Edwin born 1915, who married
Doris Watkins, born
1918, of Malvern.
They had a son called Anthony who married
Christine Sylvia
Dunkley of Chatham in Kent. They had three daughters, Debbie, Diane and
Sally. Anthony later re-married to Patricia Nunney. They had a son
Gary.
Diane married Simon Wellham of Worcester. They had two
